There was a point in time when experienced Groms weren’t always provided the most feasible options in terms of a ski that worked for them both in size and construction. Often times, what worked in size was probably too forgiving you a more aggressive young ripper. With the DPS Foundation Grom, younger shredders can now hop on a legitimate wood core ski with all of the design features seen in their adult-oriented counterparts. Featuring DPS’s Foundation build, a lightweight core is wrapped in fiberglass and sandwiched between two Unidirectional Carbon strips that run through the length of the ski, providing stability, vibration damping and a snappy flex. At 87 millimeters under the boot, this ski is plenty wide to give the lighter and smaller stature of a Grom plenty of float in soft snow, especially given the rocker profile and tip shape of the ski. In the front of the ski, you’ll find a tapered shape which allows the ski to cut through variable snow like butter. A subtle rocker profile in the tip helps the ski plane through softer snow with ease and it also helps with turn initiation so the Groms don’t have to work hard to get this thing into a nice powerful carve. A bit of tail rocker adds to the ski’s all-mountain persona by allowing for some added release of the tail for quicker smeared or skidded turns. Younger advanced skiers will have a blast on the Foundation Grom from DPS.
